Nursing Services
School nurses strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children and by identification and assistance in the removal or modification of health-related barriers to learning in individual children. The major focus of school health services is the prevention of illness and disability and the early detection and correction of health problems. The school nurse is especially prepared and uniquely qualified in preventive health, health assessment, and referral procedures.
Santa Clara Unified School District continues to support a quality School Nursing Program that provides essential mandated services, such as vision and hearing screening, as well as a variety of other valued services:
- Consulting with teachers, parents, students, and administrators.
- Developing and supervising specialized physical health care plans for students with critical health needs.
- Assisting in implementing health curriculum and support prevention of, and intervention with incidents of child abuse.
- Facilitating in the implementation of Home Hospital Instruction for students who will be out of school due to a prolonged illness or injury.
